What a disgusting state with an equally disgusting governor.

You people should be ashamed.

I wonder whether Joe Lieberman should have told the residents of CT that "only Jews were his brothers and sisters."

>>>BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley told a church crowd just moments into his new administration that those who have not accepted Jesus as their savior are not his brothers and sisters, shocking some critics who questioned Tuesday whether he can be fair to non-Christians.

"Anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I'm telling you, you're not my brother and you're not my sister, and I want to be your brother," Bentley said Monday, his inauguration day, according to The Birmingham News.

The Anti-Defamation League on Tuesday called Bentley's remarks shocking.

"His comments are not only offensive, but also raise serious questions as to whether non-Christians can expect to receive equal treatment during his tenure as governor," said Bill Nigut, the ADL's regional director.

Speaking at Dexter Avenue King Memorial Church after the official inaugural ceremony, Bentley told the crowd that he considered anyone who believed in Jesus to be his brothers and sisters regardless of color, but anyone who isn't a Christian doesn't have that same relationship to him.

"If the Holy Spirit lives in you that makes you my brothers and sisters. Anyone who has not accepted Jesus, I want to be your brothers and sisters, too," Bentley said.<<<

I respect your opinion about the remarks made by a PERSON, but I do believe it a bit overly dramatic to ASSUME the ENTIRE State is disgusting because of this person's remarks.

I'll bet there are people of many opinions in your State--I don't hate your entire State because I don't agree with some of them.

As Americans, we have the right to freedom of speech and religion.....therefore I celebrate the right of everyone to express how they feel--even if I don't always agree.

Have an awesome day from the great State of Alabama!!

Hey Kim, here's a newsflash...HE'S YOUR GOVERNOR -- HE SPEAKS FOR ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!

Get it?

He should have been removed from office for those statements before he left the podium.

I'm a (atheist) Jew and I find his comments deeply, deeply offensive for an elected official in the United States to have made.

Are you offended?

Take some personal responsibility here.

Draz,

Did she even say that she voted for the guy?!?!?

Curb your anger because right now it is AMAZINGLY misdirected.  If you want to be productive write the governor's office and tell them how you feel.  It's not productive AT ALL to come over here to the AL board and start finger wagging at a bunch of people without knowing their personal belilefs on the issue.

Oh, and as for making us athiests look sane and logical. . .   YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!  We have a hard enough time being accepted without going around shooting our mouths off half-****ed looking like a total douche bag.

I think Draz is completely SANE and utterly LOGICAL -- but to angrily appeal to the insane and illogical in this backwoods state, he'll appear  to THEM to be a live wire.

I totally agree with Kim but why don't you just stay out of our state then? He's not your governor so why are you offended? I've seen you before and all you do is stir up trouble.

If you aren't aware its America and we have freedom of speech. He made his Monday. Maybe we dont all agree but it is what it is and i dont see what any business it is of yours if you arent from or live in Alabama.

So, from the great State of Alabama, have a blessed day!

He doesn't have the RIGHT to use his position of governor to PREACH *HIS* religion.  No, there is NOT freedom of speech in that regard -- it's called separation of church and state, and he shat all over the constitution by endorsing a specific establishment of religion as a government official.

He made Alabama a laughing stock to the rest of the country.  We look like a bunch of inbred religitards, but I guess if the shoe fits............

Good ol'Boys Network is in full force, I see. *sigh* How did that pencil-necked lil DWEEB get elected, anyhow. I figured with his bird-boned shoulders and his dorky little pinhead he was unelectable. Well, he knows how to win popularity in Alabama, obviously -- be unable to separate politics from your fundietard religion.  This was a blatant, BLATANT endorsement of a certain establishment of religion by a government official.  The fool is actually using the political office of governor to push for converts to xianity!!  Grrrrrrrrrrr!

I thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster every day that this douchbag inbred isn't my brother!!!

This is the subject of my Daily Atheist Devotional on the MB for today, btw:

If you read my response, I never said whether I agreed or disagreed.  Yes, he is Alabama's Governor, but I also never said that I voted for him or supported him.  Am I to be held responsible if we have a president in office that you don't like too?? Maybe everyone in America could get a similar email from you.

I simply stated that the remarks aimed at the entire State via a blog on a WLS site seemed a bit overly dramatic....and might I point out....completely unrelated to WLS.

Anywho, I, like you, have the freedom to put my thoughts out there on the WWW.  Cheers to America The Beautiful.

Now, I'll exercise my right to use a wonderful tool called the block button.
