William J. Lee Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

Dr. Lee earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa and completed his internship and residency in general surgery from Michigan State University in Kalamazoo, MI. Developing a special interest in those patients struggling to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle, he completed further training to become certified in adjustable gastric banding (LAP-BAND®/Realize® Band) and vertical sleeve gastrectomy.  He has close to 10 years of bariatric experience and has successfully performed more than 700 bariatric surgeries. Dr. Lee’s surgical specialties include: ·  All forms of General Surgery of the GI Tract ·  Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery ·  Breast Surgery (lumps/mastectomies) ·  Gallbladder and Appendix Surgery ·  Hiatal Hernia and GERD Repair ·  Varicose Vein Treatments ·  Adjustable Gastric Banding (even after Gastric Bypass) ·  Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy ·  Laparoscopic Single Incision Surgery Utilizing new technologies and techniques, Dr. Lee performs almost all procedures laparoscopically or through a single incision which leads to shorter hospital stays, reduced risk of infection, less scarring and faster recovery. Approaching each patient as an individual through one-on-one interaction and counseling, he can educate them on their available choices for general and weight-loss surgeries. Together, they decide on the best surgical option and ensure continued success through a comprehensive disease management program. Passionate about the importance of providing ongoing aftercare and support to all patients, Dr. Lee is also one of a select group of bariatric physicians who will provide continued aftercare, even to those patients who have had weight-loss surgery performed by another surgeon. In his free time, Dr. Lee enjoys spending time with his children, playing guitar, working out, playing golf, and cooking. He is originally from Des Moines, IA. He joined Glacial Ridge Health System in April 2014.
