About MeDr. Nirmalan has a passion for bariatrics. He strives to help patients who are struggling with weight-related conditions by treating the root cause of their conditions: obesity. He has seen the life-altering transformation that can result from surgery and the freedom that weight loss can produce. Dr. Nirmalan is trained and experienced to perform the laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding procedure, as well as managing weight loss before and after surgery. He has excellent surgical outcomes with not only weight loss, but also with improvement of obesity-related diseases. Dr. Nirmalan is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), as well as a member of the American College of Surgeons. He earned his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio University’s College of Medicine. He was Chief Surgical Resident in General Surgery at St. John Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Nirmalan has been a general surgeon with IU Health Arnett since 2010. Dr. Nirmalan takes immense pride in his work and feels it is an honor to join his patients in their journey toward a healthy lifestyle. He is focused on maintaining a strong, devoted and comprehensive weight loss surgery program that translates into lifelong weight loss success. During his spare time, he loves being with his family and traveling.
