Dr. Husain Abbas, Bariatric Surgeon
Husain Abbas, MD, FACS, FASMBS has always been interested in the surgical sciences, especially the art and science of surgery. His professional journey started in Dublin, Ireland where he attended medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons. While in Ireland, Dr. Abbas also taught surgery before moving to the United States to pursue his surgical career. Once in the United States, he completed his residency at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Connecticut, a Yale University School of Medicine affiliated hospital. He then went on to complete a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gastroesophageal and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Florida.
As a board-certified surgeon, Dr. Husain Abbas practices at Memorial Advanced Surgery, specializing in bariatric surgery, oncology surgery, and complex hernia repairs. He performs the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG), DaVinci Robotic Laparoscopic Revision and Open Revision procedures, Roux-en-Y (RNY), Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (DS), and Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding. He is also performing the LINX procedure, the LINX Reflux Management System is a surgical option for patients suffering from GERD.
In addition to performing bariatric surgery, Dr. Abbas has authored several peer-reviewed articles. With a passion for patient education, he is also a supporter of the ObesityHelp bariatric community, where he regularly shares his expertise as a bariatric surgeon by authoring educational articles on bariatric surgery.
