He earned his Bachelor of Science (BS) at McKendree College, and his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Mercy Hospital, where he also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Yurcisin is fellowship trained in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery through Duke University Medical Center, one of the world’s leading and most prestigious bariatric fellowship programs. He has also completed specialized training in Endoscopy and Laparoscopy, Advanced Laparoscopic Intestinal Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Flexible Endoscopic Surgery, and Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Yurcisin is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and has been on the SAGES Technology and Bariatric Committees since 2010. He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP), and is a Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (FASMBS). As an accomplished bariatric surgeon, Dr. Yurcisin was awarded the Karl Storz/IRCAD Traveling Fellowship Award and has served as faculty for the ASMBS Advanced Laparoscopic Suturing and Skills Acquisition Lab, SAGES Advanced Laparoscopy Hernia Resident Workshop, and SAGES Learning Center Station Coordinator. Additionally, Dr. Yurcisin has authored many abstracts, book chapters, posters, and presentations.
