Angel Reyes-Villanueva, MD, FACS, FASMBS, DABOM, is a highly-skilled general and bariatric surgeon with a special medical interest in and dedication to obesity medicine and bariatric/metabolic surgery. He is on the surgical team at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Center for Weight Management at St. Michael. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree at the University of Puerto Rico. He earned his medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where he also graduated Magna Cum Laude. He went on to complete his residency at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center and an internship in Orthopedic Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center.  He was fellowship trained in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Reyes-Villanueva is a highly-regarded US Army Colonel (Retired) and has served as Director of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center,  Chief of General Surgery, and Chief of Bariatric Surgery at Womack Army Medical Center, and Chief of Surgery at Reynolds Army Community Hospital. Board-certified, Dr. Reyes-Villanueva is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS). He is a member of the American Hernia Society (AHS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA). He previously served as Associate Editor of Advances in Obesity, Weight Management & Control. Dr. Reyes-Villanueva is the recipient of many awards and honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal,  Korean Defense Service Medal, the AMEDD “A” proficiency designator honor, NATO Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and many more. He is very much involved in research and has presented at National Meetings and co-authored numerous publications.
