Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been overweight all my life. In my family food was a reward for everything. I used food as a barrier between myself and others so Imwouldn't get hurt. It also seemed to be my only friend at times because we moved a lot when I was in grade school.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing was sitting on the sidelines because I felt too self conscious to participate.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I am to newly post op to enjoy much right now. I had surgery on October 7, 2013. I am now 11 days post op. It has been a fairly easy post op period. I have had a couple issues. Number one is I cannot tolerate the taste of sweets! As a confirmed chocoholic this has been a real eye opener. I just now am able to gag down the Premier Protein shakes. I had purchased a lot of product from Bariwise as I am intolerant of NutraSweet. Now I can't stand the taste of any of it. Maybe someday soon. Getting enough protein has been a challenge, but every day is getting a little better.
