Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I am 27 years old and I can always remember being a little bigger then my classmates but that was because I was also the tallest person in every single class until I reached 7th grade and the boys began to grow. But once we moved from Detroit, MI to Atlanta I became really depressed and started pilling the weight on. In 8th grade I was 5'8 200 lbs which wasn't horrible looking back on it because I was in a size 12/14. But once I went off to college to gained about 60lbs and it has been the hardest to get off. I would lose 20-30 lbs just to get stressed and gain it all back plus some. Then I met my husband fell in love. I got pregnant with my first child and I was 5'9 260 but when I had her I was 282. I remember thinking I will never get this big again. Then i lost all the weight just to gain it back a couple of years later then I got pregnant with my 2nd child and after having him I was 303. I hated my doctors appts because I knew I would have to get on the scale. I also had a horrible pregnancy due to my weight. I had to be put in bed rest at 28 weeks because of my blood pressure. My son is now 7 months old and I am down to 280 after doing weight watchers for a couple of months but I can't stay motivated. I have just recently made the decision that I'm getting surgery and taking my life back. I want to be able to shop at stores with cute clothes and not have to worry about if they have a plus size section.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being overweight to me is my horrible social anxiety. My husband always wants to take me places to meet his friends and I always make an excuse of why I can't go. Or old friends will want to hang out and I will make something up about why I can't. I want to be able to enjoy life and not worry about if people are talking about my weight.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I haven't had it yet but am looking forward to it
