Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

While growing up, I was always over weight, but by the time I was in high school it got bad. The worst horror of it was how ashamed I was of my weight and what I looked like, so I would benge eat to drown the pain only causing me to gain more weight and feel much worse. It turned into a never ending cycle

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I couldn't do anything. If you want to fly on a plane they make you wear a seat belt attachment and pay for an extra seat. I couldn't go to the movies because I couldn't fit in the 30 inch wide seat. I couldn't walk up my own driveway without being out of breath. Worst of all I had no self esteem to even try to get into a relationship

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I can run! I can go anywhere. I now have a great job working on windmills that I couldn't even fit through the doorway before. I have great self esteem and courage. I have a great relationship with my wife and children and I can play with my kids, who wouldn't exist if I hadn't have had the surgery
