Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was over weight forever, since I was about 10years old, now I'm 38 years old . My weight always got in the way of doing a lot of things , well embarrass of doing thing with my friends and family, like for instance going to the pool or beach , all my friend and family would have on bathing suit or a 2 piece and here I go with boxer and a baggy tee shirt. I was always tease because of my weight and would alway got into fights because of it. So once I've learn about weight loss surgery I knew that was something I wanted to do. So me and my primary doctor spoke about weight loss surgery due to my on going back pain that I've been having for about 8 years now her suggestion was weight loss surgery and she asked me did I ever considered it. I told her yes I'm considering now. Weight loss surgery to me met tummy tucks and liposuction but I knew it would take me forever to save for that, so my doctor referred me to Brooklyn Hospital Center , where I meant a great team and when I say great I mean great I was introduce to Dr. Levine J and her team , the nutr Dr. Lacey their coordinator Kathy and their office manager shakira , they all made sure I was comfortable took care everything in a timely matter . Dr Levine is a wonderful person , she has a great sense of humor she take her time with her patient she made my surgery an success, all you need to do is to listen what she tells you to do and your weight loss will be an success believe that . I'm not getting paid to say any of these stuff this is the facts and my story.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing for me being over weight is looking in the mirror and hating everything about myself except my pretty face. It not low self esteem because when I look my best I feel my best . I just want to be able to been over to tie my shoes without feeling back pain or ab pain, I want to be able to run on the treadmill and track for at least a whole 10 minute without feeling I'm going to past out or tight in the chest. I want to be able to put on a 2 piece evening if I could only wear it around the house I want to feel good in it.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

My surgery date was 7/16/2013 so 8/16 would make me 1 month post op and I am getting better by the day . As my weight coming off I do feel a little more energized , so I'm able to enjoy my workout a bit better. Keep in mind everybody is different and will have different experience so we all must take one day at a time and let our body heal from the surgery and make sure we're taking our vitamins, getting our proteins in and drinking lots of fluids, so as my weight is coming off I know it will be a lot more things that I could do what I was not able to do before and that's to look good in my bathing suit or two piece in the mirror.
