Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was hard. I would start on a diet and go good until I get sick and then I would quit. I would just smile and keep going and on the inside I was just crying. When I finally made up my mind and learned about the bariatric surgery it gave me some postive feeling about my self. I know now that I have been given a chance to improve my health and live a happy health live.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Cant' tie my shoes. Having to get help from my girls to assist me in putting my socks and shoes on.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I haven't lost any weight yet. I'm just into my 1st week of post-op.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I found out about it about 2 years ago and I was very negative issues about it. But after sitting down and going to some of the support group I understood where these people had been and saw where they were heading. I want to be apart of that feeling.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

Excited, Excited. I don't think I every really got anxiety. I was so ready for my new lease on life.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

They are tiny. My mom was so surprise. she said how did they do the surgery.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I really haven't experience anything yet.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

My mom and my husband thinks I'm fraigle right now and don't want me to do anything. I told them I have to get up and walk and get around that it will help me feel better.
