Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I became overweight as a teenager and my weight progressed over the years to come. I was always unhappy about my weight issue and it caused me a lot of pain, humiliation, embarrassment and sadness. It kept me from making the right decisions, in many instances, and I always felt insecure and wanted to be thin like "everybody else."

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I find this embarrassing to even type, but I couldn't use the bathroom properly, couldn't tie my shoes without major effort on my part, always felt tired and lethargic, and wasn't a happy person. I guess the worst thing about being overweight was when I would walk into a large room of people and be stared at and talked about.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

EVERYTHING IS A JOY TO DO! I now walk four miles every day, rain or shine! I go out a lot more and really feel good about myself and love myself for the first time. I feel free at last!
