Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been overweight most of my adult life. I always blamed it on the fact that I had four kids and worked all the time. Then I started seeing consequences of being overweight and how my life was just not healthy anymore. I made the decision to have bariatric surgery to give me a tool to see my weight loss journey through. I had surgery April 16, 2013. I weighed in at 237 pounds. I am now down to 195 pounds 12 weeks out and still losing by the day. I am so happy I made this decision

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being overweight was my lack of energy and inability to keep up with my kids or husband when we walked anywhere. I was so tired all of the time. I could not even lean down to tie my shoes!

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I had my surgery April 16, 2013. I am now a little over 6 months post-op and have lost 71 pounds!! I weigh about 166 pounds now. Still have some weight to lose but 166 is a whole lot better than the 237 pounds I started out at the night before surgery. I am just able to do things now I could not do before such as tie my shoes or paint my toe nails. I am a very fast walker now and I don't get short of breath like I used to. I also have been off my blood pressure meds since the first month post op!!! I feel great!!
