Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

As a child, my food choices were one of the few things that were not restricted. I developed an addiction to food that comforted me and created a wall of fat to protect me. As an adult, I was blessed with people and circumstances and therapy that helped to guide me to recognize my addiction and it's triggers. A marriage that was destroyed by his addiction to drugs and alcohol, financial catastrophe and seven years of rebuilding my finances, my self and my life, I met Mr. Perfect for Me:)... Then, peri menopause made its appearance.....and six months, 11 days after saying I do, he was diagnosed with cancer.... The weight came back.... and I felt helpless .... Then, My prayers were answered and I was approved for RNY:)

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Being the biggest person in the room.... Not having pictures from the wedding on display because I can't stand to look at myself..... Trying to find clothing that looks good and is stylish :(

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?
