Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I think I may have tried all the plans that anyone ever thought of to lose weight-except for the one that I should have tried all along. Eating well and exercising the way I should have been of my life. That being said, I of course did not do things the way I should have and found myself at 40 years old 555 pounds and just miserable. I went thru all the pre op hoops (and I think it is a good idea for ALL of them to be required!) and then had to put things on hold. A few months later, I started my journey again, and opted to take those same hoops for another round just to make sure I understood everything and what I could expect from my surgery. My Dr. was just wonderful, and everyone in his office was as well. Dr. Carlos Barba in Farmington is who I chose and I know now it was the best choice for me.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to keep up with the kids, or even the other adults in my life and wondering if I would even be around to try and play with grandchildren.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Wear clothes that fit. Walk walk walk without gasp gasp gasp or having someone ask if I am ok (my face would turn purple with the effort)
