Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been fighting weight since the age of 13.. I am now 61. It has been a challenge to say the least. I have been on every diet know to man or woman. I have lost weight, looking good, ran two 5K's .. messed up my knee and the rest is history. I am retired now and have been for 2 yrs now. I use to work out .. loved to walk... but as the years pass on in my working area and retirement I gain it all back & then some... I have always looked at Bariatric surgery, thought I was to old to have it done. Decided to walk in the Dr's office to see if I qualify .. Yup sure, with a BMI of 40.3 over 200 lbs. so I started to go with the Dr's check off list.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I can't bend over to tie my shoes, or get up walking .. my feet hurt so bad they burn, hurt me with I walk a good distance. I can't wear the clothes I like to wear only fat clothes that make me look even bigger.. I hide my fatness with big clothes to hide me ..

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I am waiting for surgery ..
