Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I hid from myself, not wanting to confirm what I looked like. I tried every diet there was. They all worked, but ultimately I failed every time. I can't describe how ashamed I was after losing 110 pounds on WW only to gain it all back. I could never have just one helping of anything.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not feeling like a normal person, feeling unwelcome in clothing stores, asking for a seat belt extender.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Tying my shoes without blacking out, not huffing and puffing at the slightest exertion. Shopping wherever I want. Exercise. I even liked the drunk guy who told me I looked fine as I walked by him in the street! The freedom of it all. But most important, I've never felt so good in my whole life. I love feeling happy and healthy.
