Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

All my life I was a "yo yo dieter". I'd lose a lot of weight and then somehow let it creep back up. I tried everything from diet pills, gym, shakes, fad diets and much more. All were unsuccessful. Quite frankly, it drove me crazy and I spiraled into a deep depression.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

There were a number of things that were horrible about being overweight. For starters I was spending hundreds of dollars on prescription medications even with insurance. I couldn't wipe myself after using the bathroom. Shaving my legs were a constantly struggle. I had little to no energy to even clean my own house. I was ashamed to be intimate with someone and felt that anyone I was with was embarrassed to go out anywhere with me.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I enjoy everything! I'm living my life now instead of living it vicariously through someone else. Shopping for clothing is by far my most favorite thing!
