Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have noticed, growing up in a country town and on a dairy, that the most important thing on the elder's mind is what are we going to eat for the next meal. Growing up in that atmosphere made me think about food all the time. I have been "fluffy" my entire life. I don't know what's it's like to be anything but obese. I wasn't an emotional eater...quite the opposite...I would quit eating if I was nervous or depressed. I just like food and thought about it all the time.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

No energy...not wanting to be around people because of being very uncomfortable anywhere I went. No chair was comfortable. Couldn't fit into booths. Feeling everyone was staring when I ate.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

My energy is returning. Camping is funner. I laugh. I don't feel quite so helpless and like I'm spinning out of control. Clothes are starting to fit better.
