Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I have always been a larger woman, even as a child. My weight never really bothered me as I always had a shape with it and my confidence level was always high. I had considered bariatric surgery about 13yrs ago after I had my daughter but got scared and decided against it. I went on living my life the way I always had been...as a plus size woman. I thought that was how it was going to be and that was the end of that. I tried diets...to many to name. So I found out i had 2 severe hernia's which have part of my intestine inside so now I have to have that removed but general surgeon said I need to loose the weight or else it may re occur. So now we are back to the weight loss surgery. this time Im older and have a better understanding of the surgery and a wonderful support system. I am so looking forward to the next step.
What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?
The worst thing about being overweight is...well where do I start. The fact that it is unhealthy for one is a good place. I have recently been diagnosed as a Diabetic (within the past 3 months) and put on metformin...which I hate by the way! I also have Asthma so being a larger woman afftects that as well. i also have a very active 3yr old which loves to run and play well im limited what I can do with her. i also have a 15 yr old high schooler so I am always skeptical about what her friends ae saying. I dont want her to be put in a situation where she has to defend me because one of her ignorant friends called me fat. Thank GOODNESS that has never happened. I try to stay as stylish but realistically I HATE SHOPPING!!! I do most of it online. I hate going to out to restuarants because you get all the stares from ignorant people when you're eating...I want to say well arent you hungry too...isnt that why you came out to eat??? children are the worst...I walked into a gas station and this little girl almost made me break down like a 2 year old...she had to be maybe 5 years old and she looked at me and tapped her mom and said look mom..SHE'S A BIG LADY! Her mom was so embarrased and she apoligized for her daughter. I just smiled and said it's ok but when I got in my car I cried all the way home
If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?
I havent had my surgery yet. I have seen the dr and we are doing the month monitored diet and exercise plan for insurance purposes which is ok with me because it gives me time to prepare mentally for the new life change. I just had my 3rd month weigh in 3 days ago and I have lost a total of 14 lbs since my journey started. I am hoping to have surgery either Spetember or October.
