Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was a skinny flexible gymnast type child until I hit puberty at age of 10. Then my body stopped growing at a height of 5'1-1/2" and I went over 100 lbs. Of course the curves came way before I was ready to deal with the attention they brought and most of my friends were not dealing with periods yet. I was ashamed to wear tight clothes and quit doing the dance, gymnastics, and swimming. This made my weight reach 120 pretty quick and it stayed there through high school. I felt fat at 125, but it didn't affect my social life or activities. After I married at age 18, I got up to 140 while I was in college. My first pregnancy at age 21 I weighed 210 at full term. I got down to 160 before my second pregnancy at age 24, but weighed 210 at delivery time. I have done weight watchers 3 times and lost more money than weight (25 lbs.) I had great success with Redux until they took it off the market I had got back down to 150. But within 6 months of stopping it I was back at 180. I didn't seek out surgery options until I went over 200 lbs. and couldn't get below it with diet and exercise. By the time I researched the band, I was 235 which was miserable. I lost 40 lbs with the band while on the liquid and soft foods but gained it back when I went to real food. I never felt restriction.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

1.Taking a shower and then working up a sweat just getting dressed and putting on my shoes 2.Squeezing into a movie theater seat or rollercoaster ride. 3.I love to swim but I hate getting out of the pool and having my dresslike swimsuit cling to me. 4.The sound my thighs make in pants when I walk down a quiet hallway. 5.The rub burns between my thighs when I wear dresses unless I wear spanks. 6.did I mention Spanks are almost a 15 min. aerobic excercise to get on?

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Surgery 8/6/13 as of 12/29/13 I am down to 175 lbs which means I can now wear a size 14 jeans that aren't stretchy and a fitted large shirt instead of size 18/20. I enjoy dressing up and never feel hungry!!!!
