Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Over the past 10 years after retiring, my weight had slowly increased. Probably due to inactivty from not working. Also obesity runs in my family....at one time i was the smallest in 7 people in my immediant family. I have hypothyroidism, daibetes and other medical problems that also contributed to me being over weight. I went into a deep depression after i had to retire after having a major stroke. I was referred to Dr. Walton by my cardiologist to have the surgery becuase of heart failure which put me into the hospital 5 times in less then 6 months. Something needed to change, i needed to be here for my family and be in the best health i could be in.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

all of the medical problems that you incurr from obesity. I have an extensive medical hx. I'm at the age that i have grand children now, it was hard for me to take care of them. It was also hard to get around. Daily activites were cumbersome.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I spend time with my grandkids. I can walk without shortness of breath so i can get around alot better then before the surgery. Its given me the freedom to go out and shop until "i drop'.I enjoy keeping my home in order now. Best of all.....i enjoy getting out with me spouse and family becuase at times i just stayed home. I bake and cook more.
