Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I gain most of my weight after the birth of my twins. I was a comforter eater. Love my carbs and sweets, always told myself that it was just how I was to be. So for the last 28 years, I have been lying to myself.. Finally, I found out that I could have weight loss surgery and insurance would pay for it. I found a Dr that did weigth loss surgery and made my appointment with him on. Aug 26, 2011 and for 6 months I had to lose 10% of my weight in order to have the surgery. I lost over the 10% in 6 months.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I always looked around to see if I know anyone when I went in to Lane Bryant. I did not want anyone to know that I shopped there. Then my daughter was getting married. It should have been the most wonderful day of my life and it was. Except I had a really difficult time finding a dress for the wedding. I hate looking at myself in her wedding pictures. Then the time at Las Vegas when my sister used me a human sheld. That really hurt. Hate to go to stores for the simple reason, people are cruel.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

March 8, 2012 is shen I had my surgery for weight loss. As of todate, I have loss 45.4lbs. I don't want new clothes until I am close to my goal of 130 lbs. So I am shopping at discount stores (Value Village, etc,). Our son overseas serving his country and I can't wait for him to see me. Our daughter n son-in-law saw me this past weekend. I know I am looking and feeling better everyday. Come this July, I will be a grandma and I am so looking at being able to run and play with my little grandson and know that he will never know me as the fat grandma. I am going to love my new life and my self. I love hearing my husband call me his skinny lady..
