Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

My name is Carol Ann I am 24 years old and I have been over weight ever since I can remember. Wanting and wishing I could do things that I saw my "skinny" friends doing. I have held my head high, been confident and carried my self well....(well thats what I was told). As I became an adult It got much harder to deal with....my sister who had lost 100lbs and looked great was my inspiration...but as most of us do I fell off the exercise and eating rigth wagon. Then it was all about having a baby, it is and still is my number 1 reason for getting surgery. I am not unhealthy....not diabetic, no high BP, normal cholesterol etc. So it wasnt so much about getting healthy, it was about having a family and staying healthy. I had thought about surgery about a year ago but couldnt get the time off work and still support myself, so that idea went out the window....I dieted over and over and over but got no results...In May of 2010 my grandma got her 6th reconstructive back surgery, and being the caretaker that I am, I was determined to take care of her every beck and call, and thats what I did....grandmas is doing great today and is still thinking of ways to re-pay me (I told her she doesnt have to, but....) In September 2010 my parents sat me down and voiced thier concerns with my wieght and health, told me my grandma and them had decided they would pay my bills and take care of me and wanted me to get gastric bypass surgery. So hear I am...Surgery date 2/14/2012 I am about 30lbs down and wouldnt trade this wonderful gift for the world. I am so blessed and I have my family to thank! Thank you for reading my story and good luck!!!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I made a list....It has about 30 reasons on it as to why bariatric surgery is good and reasons why I want to loose weight...I wont list them all but my number 1 worst thing about being overweight is not being able to have a baby.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I had surgery 2/1/2010....Happy Valentines Day to me!!! I am 30lbs down so far and I have such a long journey ahead of me. Right now I enjoy the energy that I have already gained from losing. It is amazing...I want to go go go!!!!!
