Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

All my life I struggled with my weight and I am sure that my choices in foods did not help any. Always taunted and teased nothing except diets helped but on 1000 calories/day is no way to live and when you try to eat normal it comes back and then some. I have a great wife and would like to spend a long retirement with her but fear I won't make it. I am going through the medical sessions to have the Gastric Bypass done and one of the tests required me to close 10+ pounds (stress test). At first I thought you guys are NUTS 10 pounds in that short time!! I have struggled years not to gain 10 pounds in that time. Well guess what I lost 10 pounds in 1 1/2 weeks. now I am wondering if I should continue with the surgery or just stay on the track I am now. I had the surgery Jan 2, 2013 and in the first month I did have some regrets since I still had some hunger pains, but NOW I am feeling GREAT and would go through it again in heart beat but I hope I won't have to. I am down 116 pounds as of July 18, 2013.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being to walk with my wife. After 1/2 block to block my back hurts. The teasing and having a hard time to find nice clothes with spending 3 times the price.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Being able to just get up and go a walk without having major chest pains. I can sit in my wifes car and do up the seatbelt and I can drive mine without the extender.
