Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was in an abusive relationship with my (now) ex-husband. I turned to food as a way of dealing with it. I began to try different diets and exercise programs, but the pain in my joints, my back problems and being constantly winded left me depressed and that led to me eating more. In 2002 I began to research RNY GBS . After a year of research and talking with several different doctors I decided that this was the best way for me to go.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to keep up with my twin sons. I would get so winded and I would have chest pains that I would have to sit down to rest. Just walking hurt.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I love to go shopping for new clothes! I also love not having to tell my friends that I can't do certain things with them because of my weight.
