Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have struggled with my weight all of my life. Surrounded by a sibling and friends that were like tooth picks, My self esteem was pretty much null. I was having to take blood pressure medicine, depression meds, and my cycle was completely out of whack.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to shop at the same places as friends. Having family members tell me how big I was getting and how I had packed on the pounds. I didn't want to go out much with my family because I felt like I was embarrassing to be around.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I'm only one week out post op, so my outings haven't really started yet. I enjoy not hovering over the fridge all the time and I look forward to being able to exercise and finally buy those sized clothes that make me feel like I fit in.
