Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Before deciding to have bariatric surgery I was miserable at 371 lbs, I sat all day at work and did not exercise as that was not a word in my dictonary. I was tired all the time and would work, come home change into my pajamas and in bed sometimes by 7 PM I totally had no energy.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Because of my medical history with a hereditary lung diease the weight only caused more breathing problems as the weight was pushing up on my lungs. I was on oxygen 24/7 and used a wheelchair or a walker with a seat to get around.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

After choosing WLS and had the surgery I have lost a total of 130 lbs and still struggle with getting the rest off but I can do it. I go to the gym 7 days a week and do a 1 or 2 hour workout. I have become certified in fitness and nutrition to be able to train individuals that are obese and wanting to become active. A skinny trainer sometimes don't know the limitations of a obese client and never been heavy to know what its like. Being a trainer and still obese they are less intimidated sometimes. My journey is still ongoing and I would not change anything about the surgery I chose, because I am no longer strapped to oxygen and I can do exercise and love it
