Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Since I can recall I have been on the heavy side of the scale. I recal when I was 7 and weighing 110, being hospitalized for highblood pressure. Oh my god! Once released home my mother tried everything and anything that I could remember. Running, jogging, liquid diet, even diet pills at the age of 7! My weight just keep creeping up, by 8 I was 125 by 13 I was 165 and by 22 I was 271 pounds! What can I say the emotional relocoaster I been since birth. I am determine once and for all to be healthy no longer classified as obese!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst is being isolated from the world, not being able to do what you like. Being self aware of your self and your surroundings. Going out and feeling out of place and uncomfortable with your own skin. The ongoing battle of obesity, loosing then gaining not being able to feel that you have control over your own self.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I am currently a Lap Band patient soon to convert to a RNY Gastric Bypass. Back Nov 24 2008 I had the Lap Band surgery and weighing 271 pounds, by Jan 2010 I was down to 181 pounds, but also 4 weeks pregnant ! It was a rough one I went up to 227 pounds by the end of my pregnancy Sep 2010. Went back to my surgeon on Feb 2011 because I was breast feeding I took it slow loosing the weight by May 2011 I was 206 pounds. Feeling I was not loosing much actually gaining I decided since child bearing once not going to be a question any more to convert to the Gastric Bypass. Because of insurance change I began looking into a bariatric clinic near my home. July 2011 I decided I was going to convert to the gastric bypass from the lap band. Now I weight 246 pounds Jan 30 2012. Pending surgery Jan 31th 2012!! Had surgery on 1/31/2012, now 20 pounds less on Feb 17th 012. So excited eventhough I have not been myself lately, very depressed and moody. Now I understand that my weight is not the only thing I have to tackel.
