Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been battling my weight my entire life, starting out as a chubby child. I hit my highest after some personal issues and decided it was time to gain control of my life. In 2009 at 5'2 I was weighing in at 386 lbs. I made a few changes to my diet(no soda, no eating after 8, etc.) and started a new, more physical job. I succeeded in loosing 50lbs in the next 2 years but am not nearly close to being in a healthy weight range. I decided bariatric surgery was for me.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I think realizing that my children are losing out on me being a better mom is the hardest thing about being overweight. I am unable to do so many things with them because of my size, my low energy and just being embarrassed to go out and live life! It broke my heart to hear that my 8 year old was coming to my defense when his peers were making fun of his "fat mom". :-(

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?
