Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been overweight since the age of 5, and by the time I hit high school, I weighed over 200 pounds. I must say though, I didn't have such a tough time of it back then. I may have been the butt of an occasional joke or rude remark, but I was never bullied. And although I was never really happy with my appearance, it wasn't so bad. But then came college. I was free from my mother's ever-watchful eye, and enjoying all the typical college foods: pizza, burgers, junk food, etc. My Freshman 15 ending up more like a Freshmen 50. Followed immediately by a Sophomore 50. By the time I graduated, I had hypertension, depression, constant pain, and was at my all time highest weight: 360. I've tried every diet in the book, and I know I can't lose the weight on my own. So I'll be going into surgery for my Sleeve Gastrectomy on 1/27/12. Wish me luck!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not fitting - not fitting in seats, not fitting in clothes, not fitting in socially.
