Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I am 36 yr old and have ALWAYS been overweight.... I eat when im happy, sad, mad, glad, upset, in crowds, alone. u name it I did it. I was a frequenter of fad diets and diet programs, would lose weight but never kept it off.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

the worst things about being overweight, not being able to walk far without getting out of breath, not being able to play with my kids like I want to, having my children feel embarassed by my size, and always fearing not being here longterm with my family due to obesity and the risks associated with obesity.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

i will have VSG on January 23.2012 @ 930am.... well I had the surgery on Monday, all went well not as much pain as I had thought it maybe, just alot of soreness and pulling when getting up and down. I find it hard to get in all the liquids and 3 meals a day. I took the "sip sip sip" lingo a bit too literal i think. I have reread my materials several times and now i see i can drink my protein shakes in 45 min -1 hr instead of sip at a time lasting all day. so getting the protein in isnt a big deal. but i find that the meals lasting so long and not being able to drink 30 min before and after a meal make me real time aware. I have tried a few semi solid foods, pintos and cheese from toco bell, well its a 3-4 bite meal, then i have also had sugar free jello not a whole 3 oz container. I will be working on the mental eating end of obesity, i find that these are still with me, not hungry at all then walk into the kitchen and start pondering what is there... i have to get a handle on this.. we all have to overcome what brought us to this point in our lives and be able to change it with our New bodies... so for now good luck to everyone.
