Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. I was made fun of in school and always the last to be picked for teams. I had very low self esteem and never thought I was good enough. As I got older It lead to many bouts of depression, which eventually lead me to research WLS.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to be active and get down on the level of my children is the worst part of being overweight. I also hated hearing the words, "You have such a pretty face." It was the nice way for people to tell me I needed to lose some weight.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

When I had WLS in 2003 I loved seeing the results so quickly. It was so nice to go shopping and buy normal size clothes. I didn't have to settle for what they had in the plus size department.
