Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

For the last 25-ish years, I have tried every diet technique, plan or pill I could find. I felt defeated all the time, like I would never win.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Doing something normal like grocery shopping, and hearing people whisper cruel things. Going to work, and feeling like you are being judged for having frumpy clothes. Being told I was too fat to carry a healthy baby to term.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I'm six months out today. I love being able to walk further and faster. I love knowing I'm getting healthier every day. I love going out to clubs, and enjoying shows, and also knowing when my body is tired and wants to go home. I love going out to eat, and eating 1/4 to 1/2 of my meal. It still surprised me how quickly I am full!
