Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have loved food my entire life and I think it was my best friend at times.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

People staring at me or being scared a child will say something about my weight.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I can already keep up with my kids better and I'm only 5 weeks out.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

My mom heard about it. I was excited and thought that I would be a good canidate.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

I had no insurance.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

I was in the hospital for 2 nights. I had great nurses and had no problems. The most important thing I brought to the hospital was my own pillow and slippers.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

I had a problem after surgery. They were giving me morphine and it wasn't working for me. They switched the medicine and I felt mcuh better.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I was so excited and so busy. I had so much preping to do. I tried to stay positive and focus on the future.

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

When I came home from the hospital the hardest part was not being able to lift my children.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I haven't found a support group yet.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I have 5 little lines that is all.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I had a plateau last about 5 days and it really scared me.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

People are really happy for me and some are even nicer. Which makes me kind of angry because if you don't like me the way I am then I don't need you.
