Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster. I would feel bad about my weight so I would eat more to make myself feel better.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst part was not being able to keep up with my son.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I can get on the floor and play with my son. Its amazing! I don't have to wait in a parking lot for a front spot. I Have so much energy all the time. I can walk around my neighborhood multiple times without getting tired.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I was watching something on the news about it. It peeked my interest and I looked into it shortly thereafter.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

My insurance had a few requirements before getting approved. I hurried up and got all the requirements and I was approved rather quickly.

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

He was very calm and relaxed. He answered my questions about surgery options. Do your research before you go and prepare questions.

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

After talking with my family I decided that it was the best option for me.

How did you decide which proceedure to have?

By doing research.

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

I just thought positively and I followed the Dr's orders.

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

My dad was the only one who was not happy about the Idea. He was worried but after surgery he was very supportive.

How did your employer/supervisor react to your decision? What did you tell him/her? How long were you out of work?

What was it like attending your first information seminar on weight loss surgery? Were you glad you attended? if so, why?

I received a lot of information. The surgeon and nurses spoke to a group of us. I felt excited and overwhelmed. I went home and read everything several times. I was very happy I went
