Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was never obese until after i started tohave children. Up to that point in my life i never worried about what i ate. Then when i did need to lose weight I didnt know how. So i would lose weight and then gain it back because of no will power.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

being embarrassed. people always saying that it was the biggest they ever saw me... til the next time they saw me and they would say it again!!!

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Practically everything! I love being able to take a walk. Before my RNY I couldn't walk far, I would get out of breath and have horrible pain in my legs from walking. I love being able to play with my grand-baby Alyssa! I have no trouble keeping up with my 2 year old angel. It is wonderful to be able to do anything I choose but its only because my GBS gave me my life back!!!!!

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

In 2004 my Doctor. I went for the consultation to find out about it. I felt i had an option but I was denied by insurance.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

was approved in 2007 within 1 week! Get your information... anything that is going on and can be documented.... bring copies.
