Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I am 49 and have always been heavy but after finally giving in to injecting insulin I have gained another 150 lbs and no diets work...the last 3-4 years on insulin have sent me into an upward spiral and it is not controlable although my blood sugars are great! Not a good tradeoff but what can you do? I think I have found the answer onl wish I had found it sooner.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to lead the active life I yearn for...having to have my 17 year old son clean my bottom......hook my bra......put on my clothes....insert and remove my tampax...use a pad you say.. can't wear underware.. belly to big... butt too small they just roll down. Those are probably the worst things oh yea constant pain...

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I am now 11 years out and have maintained a loss of 301 lbs as of today 03/29/2012...........I can do about anything.....I ski, scuba dive, hike, fish, ride bikes, on and on and on...........

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

TV......friends who had it.......and recent publicity......scary but the first really sensible answer in ages.
