Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

My behavioral and emotional battle with weight control prior to bariatric surgery was that something was wrong with me and I had no self control. I thought if I could only get a grip or a jump start I would be okay. Then, there was always Monday or next week ... I will start me new diet. Now, I realize it is a lifestyle change.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

There are two things about be physical appearance and health issues increased as my weight increased.... denial, denial, denial.

My insurance flat out denied the approval. So, I sacrificed and financed part of the procedure and paid out of pocket for part of it. It was worth every penny. I feel so much better. I am mobile again.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

I was in the hospital for four days. Initially, I was supposed to be in overnight but I had an upper resipiratory infection and fever which extended my stay. The most important thing to bring is your bariatric folder from you meetings if you have one and a journal to track your journey.

Yes, but my surgeon was wonderful. No regrets.

I followed the advice of my surgeon and nutritionist to the letter. I was very careful to stay on full liquids and allowed my body/stomach time to heal. I rested a lot and walked as instructed. Walking eases the gas and increases your energy. I lost 20 pounds, immediately.
