Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I am an emotional eater, never realized this until every time an emotion or issue arised in my life I ran towards food. It comforted me, made me feel better, my problems then manifeted physically and I was no longer able to hide my issus they now were visible to the entire world.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The negative comments and the jokes. I hate bein reffered to as heavyset or the "big girl" it just makes me feel bad.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

walking without getting winded

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

Honestly watching televisons my first impression was that it was a miracle cure and all I had to do was have surgery and all of my problems would be over.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

My process was easy thats because I have a Great!!! insurance company and I completely understand my policy. My advice would be to read your policy thouroughly and if you have any questions MAKE them explain it to you.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

Mystay in the hospital was wonderful the staff was very nice and friendly, the stomach shots were just annoying but after a while they no longer hurt. I was there or two days after surgery. Just bring comfortable clothing and undies and a brush my hair as totally messed up.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

No noe so far (knock on wood!!!)

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

In the weeks after I got my surgery date I felt like it was surreal I was in shock. Around the days right before I felt nervous but I reassured myself it would all be worth it in the end.

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

I was just soo tired they tellyouto get up and walk and I really tried but my body was justspent and I just rested. During this period xpect not to tolerate alot of things even drinks just take it easy and let your body heal.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

My doctor has an excellent aftercare program that is very structured and easy to follow.
