Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I had an every day struggle. I always promise myself that this diet was going to be it but really I never even gave them a try. I always put it off for the next day. I never had "Will Power"

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Personally I was very much active but at being 5ft and 240lbs I always felt short of breath. Most important to me, I had been told by my Dr that if I didn't loose weight I will not be able to have a baby

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Walking and not being out of breath

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

1st 2 friends of my mother had it done. My mother told me how good they looked. Then I began to do some reserch and got more interested in it. The fact that my husband was 100% supportive of me made it much easier.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

The stay in the hospital was good. My only problem I had was that I became allergic to the morphine, and I was very itchy thrue out the 1st night because they have to go thrue procedures in order to get some Benadryl, other than that my 4 dyas there were good.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

No complications from the surgery, Thank God! Only problem I have encounter after the surgery is finding a Protein shake that I like.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I did a lot of praying and ask God to give me the strenght plus having my husband by my side was excellent too. He is an great counselor.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

Thats what I'm in the process of looking. I feel that I need to talk to people who have gone thrue this surgery to see how they cope with it. At the moment my Dr's office offers but I live so far away is impossible for me to go there. Looking for group closer

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

Yes, I had previously had my gall bladder out. So I knew it was going to be something similar.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

1st being able to walk and not be short of breath, and this is only 25lbs less. 2nd when I step on the scale and see that I'm loosing weight something that I try doing for many years. 3rd being able to fit into clothes that was tight.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

No, I think is too soon for that!
