Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have tried many diets. None of which had worked. I was tired of being overweight. Yo-yo diets. All of them did not work.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Having people in places like Victoria's Secret look at you with that your fat what are you doing shopping in here...Having high blood pressure, and other health problems. I would reall like to be around to see my grandkids.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Have not had any yet.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I ha heard a co-worked talk about it about 6 years ago. I did not have an impression about it either way. I thought Maybe I could do it.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

I went through a bariatric program. It is a good exp. I do not have any complaints yet.

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

My meeting was good. I really liked my surgeon. My meeting was supposed to be only a half hour, I think. It ended up being almost and hour and a half, because I had a lot of questions.

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

I had seen a few other people who have had the surgery with him and their results where fantastic. So I felt comfortable with him.

How did you decide which proceedure to have?

I decided on lap. I went that way because I could not be out of work that long. So I am returnng in a few weeks.

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

As with any surgery there may or may not be complications. I personally think everything happens for a reason. So if something would have happened to me, it is beacause it would have been my time.

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

My family said if thats what you want then go ahead. They did not try to talk me out of it. For the most part they where very supportive.

How did your employer/supervisor react to your decision? What did you tell him/her? How long were you out of work?

I told my employer and they said ok. As of yet I have not returned to work.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I went to my first aftercare last night. It's imformative. They even had free samples of protien drinks. Cause afetr a while the saem one gets kinda boring.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I have three incision site. ! maybe 2 will be noticable, but I am not going to be showing off my stomache so I dont really care what the scar looks like.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I am only 2 weeks out. Have not had any highs or lows..

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Not yet.
