TAMARA M.

Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was angery, depressed and in pain! It seemed to me that when I dieted All that would happen is that I would get bigger ! I was ashamed of my self and really had a problem showing myself in public. My son asked me not to pick him up at the front gate of the school, He told me that he didn't want his friends making fun of me anymore. I'd even try not eating anything at all and would still gain wait. It's kinda funny that as big as I am that my body would think that it was starving.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The disapointment my children suffered when I just hurt too much to move and couldn't do anything but just watch them . Also what they had to put up with from other children who would say mean and do thoughtless things to my my children in regards to them having such a fat mom.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

everything even just waking up in the morning !

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I had heard about the older procedures for years and was all that inpressed but then A coworker of my mother's had the procedure done and gave my mom a pair of her jeans (that were now to largefor her) to give to me.My doctor had mentioned it to me before and at my next appointment metioned it again . I told what the heck lets give it a try ! My insurence turned me down so I just figued that it was'nt meant to be . At my next regular docters apoinment (six months later) My doctor asked me again about the procedure, I told him that the insurance company turned me down. HE WAS FURIOUS ! he could not beleive with my problems that would not approve me. He got on the phone and a few weeks later the surgyens office called to set my OR date.
