Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

It has been a constant emotional battle for me. I have never been a normal healthy weight.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

There are several things, from being able to sit comfortably in certain seat (in ex. airlines, movie theaters) Not being able to do the physical thing I would like. Feeling depressed and sad all the time.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Will update later

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I first heard about it on TV. I think because of Carnie Wilson ( isn't she beautiful now) Then a friend from high school that works with me had it and I saw how successful she did with it and got more interested and that is when I found the web site.I was a little scared of the thought of surgery but never regret it now that I have had it. It will chsnge my life forever

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

My stay was relaxing. had a probelm with one nurse but took care of it right away. I was there 3 days and 2 nights. Slippers defiantely take some slipper and a tooth brush althought the hospital gave me really everything that I needed. BUT TAKE SOME GOOD SLIPPERS!!

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

The oly complication I had was a samll infectin in one of my incisions. Some peroxide and neospporin took care of it though.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

PRAYER and talking to the good friends that I made that had already had the surgery.I was really nervous the days closer to the surgery and my friend tammy (who is also a member of this site) calmed me down a lot.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

My main support is the support from people that have had the surgery. My Dr office does have a support group but I have not been to one. I feel really comfortable with the people I know. I do feel that it is important to join a group or make sure that you have support from someone.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I had Lap and the scars are pretty small. Yeah it is what I expected because I had several friend who showed me theirs.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I had a slight plateau, I started exercising and it has work out fine I will upday later it I have anymore advise.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

No not yet. Will update as I loos more weight.
