Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

My weight was alway's up. When I lost my first child I was a whopping 340Lbs. I lost alot then I gained it back. I was an emotional wreck

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing is when My 6 year old child was dying I couldn't even been over to kiss him goodbye. I will alway's, Always regret that. I couldn't even kiss my little angel goodbye.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

To early I'll answer later

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I first heard about it on T.V. I thought the people were crazy to do that to them self. But Soon all that changed about 2 years later.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

My stay in the hospital was pretty good the nurses were very caring. And I think you should bring toothpast and powder for those darn leg things they put on you to keep you from getting blood clodes. I was in the hospital 5 days. I had a few problems none of them were because of the surgery.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

The only problem I had was blood pressure 40/20 and pulse-Ox 58. They said this was from sever sleep apnea and reaction to epadiral.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

The weeks before surgery I was pretty bussy trying to get everything in order. Although I was very excited. I also had a lot of support form my groups which include this one.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I have support group meetings I go to and on line support from this group and others. Support is where you start. I'm really sure everyone who can find a support group need this for after also. Because your whole body is changing. even your Brain.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

My scare which is still a partial incision is great! It looks real good I'm not sure it is going to leave much of a scare at all. Dr. Baker did excellent work.It is about 4" long and he sutured it from the inside out.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I'm only 2 weeks out and no plateau yet. I'm about 25 pounds down.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Not yet I don't go many places yet I'm just 2 weeks out.
