Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I had to exercise like crazy to loose just a little bit of weight. I would do good on diets for a couple of weeks maybe months, but old habits were soom returning.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I did not like the way I felt with my family in public.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I feel lighter, I am still in the early stages.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I have considered it for years, however I never could afford it. Then I got some awsome insurance, and my chance to start fresh with my weight came to life.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

I had not issues at all. I had all the symtoms of being high risk with my health. Once I went to Dr Barker office, he was able to approve it through my insurance in about 3 weeks.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

My stay was good in the hospital. I only had to stay over night. Reallt I only needed to bring a change of clothes, tooth brush and tooth paste, hair brush and my c-pap machine.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

none

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

It ttok me a good 2 weeks before I regained mt energy. I dont know how you cant be anxious after any surgery.

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

Lot of GAS!!!!!!!!!!

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I do not currently have a support group.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I am used to having scars, however Dr Braker is awsome with the incisions. I think they will even disappear.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I plateaus like the 3rd week. Then all of a sudden it just started melting off of me again.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Not yet.
