Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Emotionally I felt I would never loose weight because I would try to loose weight and just gain it back.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

not being able to be very active

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

there is nothing new as of yet since i still do the same things i did before surgery.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

A lady from my church had it in 2000. and i became curious ad started researching it online.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

did not have an approval process through Kaiser just had to prove i could loose weight and tried other weightloss programs

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

my hospital stay was the day of surgery one full day after and went home the next morning. the hospital stay was good they did not bug me alot and were very nice. remember to bring a small pillow for coughing and bring loose clothes.. girls leaave the bra and underwear home ts easier with out. do not bring white clothes incase of leakage from incissions.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

NO complications....

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

so far to date i feel great. but by mid day i get tired and want a nap. soetimes i feel hungry but it is just my brain when i feel that way i drinkl more water

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

expect to be bored watching tv and sleeping only last so long. i could not dirve for 2 weeks so when my family went some where i begged like a 2 year old to go.

How far did you travel to have your surgery? (If far, how did this affect your aftercare?)

travelled an hour. this does not affect after care since i an go to and come home from work the same way as the doctors offices. as i commute to work.

Please describe in detail what things you could and couldn't eat in the weeks and months following surgery. What foods have been off limits? Please explain how your dietary tolerance changed week-by-week, and then month-by-month since surgery.

no rice pasta oatmeal starches fast food, basically live an atkins diet before and after

What was your actvity level in the days and weeks after surgery?

light walking once relaeassed back to building up my running program .

What vitamins and/or dietary supplements have you taken since your surgery?

multi vitamin B1, B12 sublingual, calcium citrate

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

i do not go to support groups. i have a close group of friends who have had the surgery and we talk daily.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

5 small scars not bad at all a little coco butter helps to hide them.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

to date no plateau's im sure they will be coming soon

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

no not all.
