Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I would eat anything I wanted. I always wanted to lose some weight, but I couldn't so I figured I should get happy with I am fast.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to wear certain stuff. Not being able to do some of the things that I liked. Being sick all the time and being in the hospital all the time.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Stepping onto an elevator and people looking at me and then looking at the weight compacity.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

From a family friend. At first I was like "ARE YOU CRAZY?" *lol* But then I did some research and talk to some of the people from this website and got a clearer view about things.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

My hospital stay was short, but comfortable. I was there for 3 days. Bring a fan! I didn't have to because they already had one for me there.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

None.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I felt like everything happened so fast. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I wasn't too scared, I just wanted it to happen already.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

None. Instead of me going to groups I kind of had ones of my own. either over the net or at my house with other young people who had it or wanted to have it.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

My scar is fine. It's healing nicely. I'm proud of my scar. It's from my battle.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I haven't had one yet!

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Everyone just want to know what's my secret to my weight loss? I tell some people the truth, others I just make up something like I changed my eating habits and walking alot more. Wait! it's not really a lie. It's just not the whole truth. lol
