Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

It was a never ending battle. My weight would just keep creeping up and up.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

My wife works at the hospital and it wasn't a problem. I had several medical issues which made it easy to get approved.

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

I wasn't scared. I researched enough to know that it is so low of change I was at more risk driving to the surgery.

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

My children were a little nervous but they got over it. I've never told anyone out side of my children and parents. All that know have been very supportive and understanding.

How did your employer/supervisor react to your decision? What did you tell him/her? How long were you out of work?

I didn't tell them. I was only off work for two weeks and we did it durning the christmas shutdown so knowone knew.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

I stayed one extra day and it helped. I wasn't drink fuilds well at first so that helped. The employees at SWMC were great.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

It just took me a little longer to get drinking enough fuilds. my doctor wasn't concerned and just recommend I stay the extra day. All is great now

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

Just wanted to get it over with. Really didn't have much anxiety.

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

It's been 27 days since my surery and I still have trouble remembering to drink enough water. I'm finally onto solid food and feel great. The weight lose is very slow. I think I was thinking it would be more like a pound a day and I've not seen that. I'm seeing maybe 1 pound every three to four days. I've just started to ramp up my workouts.
