Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I am a volume eater! I could out eat any man, woman or football player!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Lack of self-esteem. Thinking I was ugly!

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I ahve had the band removed and have developed several complications since then.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I am a nurse at a hospital that started the Lap-band. I also worked in hte clinic part-time. Thought is was a great procedure due to it being adjustable and removeable if needed.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

They approved Lap-Band with no questions asked!

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

Went fine! I worked for him! ASK QUESTIONS! NO QUESTION IS A DUMB ONE!

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

Seeing post-op patients fetting fitter and healhier

How did you decide which proceedure to have?

Only one that was offered

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

No fears, if God is ready to take me then, I died in my sleep as I wish to do! Feel confident in your surgeon and his abilities and you will be fine!

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

Husbadn was scared for me!

How did your employer/supervisor react to your decision? What did you tell him/her? How long were you out of work?

He was my surgeon and bosss! Great care!

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

24 hours due to blood sugar

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

Hematome at port site incision, went away in 4 days!

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

Excited!

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

MUshy, liquid and free flowing! I was lucky, I ahd no gas!

How far did you travel to have your surgery? (If far, how did this affect your aftercare?)

Please describe in detail what things you could and couldn't eat in the weeks and months following surgery. What foods have been off limits? Please explain how your dietary tolerance changed week-by-week, and then month-by-month since surgery.

No bread, rice or pasta! No dry meat, chicken at all! No drinking during wating for up to one hour after meal

What was your actvity level in the days and weeks after surgery?

Went back to worl 5 daus later!

What vitamins and/or dietary supplements have you taken since your surgery?

2 chewable flintstones

What side effects (nausea, vomiting, sleep disturbace, dumping, hair loss etc.) were worse for you? For how long after surgery did they persist? How did you cope with them?

none

What was the worst part about the entire bariatric surgery process?

waking up from the anethesia

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

co-workers at clinic, family

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?
